Tweet your reviews of BIFF films using the hashtag #biffreviews, and you could win tickets to the big closing night premiere of Anna Karenina.

The UK production of Leo Tolstoy’s tale of obsessive love in tsarist Russia stars Keira Knightley and Jude Law. It won’t open in Australia until next year, and tickets are selling fast.

There are 136 features screening at this year’s festival, plus 66 shorts.

BIFF began in fine style last night, with over 1000 people packing Palace Barracks for the premiere of The Sweeney.

“I'm hoping that Brisbane will embrace the ‘see if first at BIFF’ factor this year. With 43 Australian premieres and three world premieres there’s plenty to see before the rest of Australia,” says festival director Richard Moore.

Lovers of romantic comedies might want to try Pierce Brosnan in Love is All You Need, or take a trip down literary lane with the new adaptation of Great Expectations, starring Helena Bonham Carter.

There’s plenty of action with Russell Crowe trying his hand at kung-fu in The Man with the Iron Fists; or British rapper Plan B’s semi-biographical film iLL Manors, about life in British housing projects.

Laughs can be had with Save Your Legs! , about a local Australian cricket team taking a trip to India; or the black comedy come revenge flick God Bless America.

Documentary fans have a diverse range to choose from as part of the BIFFDOCS program, which will award $25,000 to the winning film. Show Me the Magic follows renowned Australian cinematographer Don McAlpine; The Reluctant Revolutionary is about a filmmaker caught up suddenly in the Arab Spring; and The Queen of Versailles shows what can happen to the super-rich when the economy takes a dive.
