QUEANBEYAN deputy mayor Peter Bray AM was recognised today at the National Disability Services Achievement Awards in Sydney. The Awards are held by Life Without Barriers, a national not-for-profit organisation, to celebrate International Day of People with Disability.

Cr Bray was chosen for the award on the back of his outstanding advocacy for the rights of people with disability has led to the establishment of a range of quality disability services in Queanbeyan and the ACT.
Southern NSW Area Operations Manager for Life Without Barriers, Edward Birt, who nominated Peter for the Accessible Community Award, said Peter uses his position and role in the community to ensure a fair go for people with disability and their families.
“This year, Peter generously gave his time to supporting a local fundraiser for the Moudji Respite Centre. Happily agreeing to MC the fundraiser, Peter’s support assisted Life Without Barriers raise much needed funds to improve the disability support centre,” Mr Birt said.
“Always willing to contribute his time and energy to projects that make a difference, Peter is passionate about the inclusion of people with disability in the life of their community.”
Life Without Barriers’ Chief Executive Ms Claire Robbs, said the awards recognise the outstanding achievement of people with disability and the carers and community workers who support them.
“These awards celebrate people like Peter who through their accomplishments, compassion and strength of spirit inspire us,” she said. “This is our way of acknowledging and encouraging the contribution that individuals with disability make to their community.”
