THE upgrade of Queanbeyan's CBD has started with the installation of some shiny new Christmas decorations along Monaro St and the Crawford St Lifestyle Precinct.

Two giant Christmas wreaths were installed on Tuesday above the awning of the Royal Hotel and just below the town clock on the Ken Oliphant building.
"There are also 12 similar but smaller Christmas wreaths along the Lifestyle Precinct and 20 Christmas flags along Monaro Street," Mayor Tim Overall said.
"I am very happy with the look and style of the Christmas decorations and we plan to add further decorations next Christmas season."
The flags have been designed in Canberra and made in Melbourne and include detailed artwork. All the decorations have been custom made and have a colour theme of silver and electric blue.
Cr Overall said work will start on the garden beds in Monaro Street which will be painted and planted in the next few weeks.
"It's an exciting time for Queanbeyan. Revitalisation of the CBD was one of the key points that arose from Queanbeyan's Community Vision, which was originally developed in 2006 and confirmed once again in 2011, and Council has been on track with improving the CBD since then.
"Council has allocated $4.8 million to undertake upgrades and beautification of Monaro St; the entrances to the CBD at Lowe and Collett Sts; Morisset St and Queen Elizabeth Park, with work to continue over the next few years."
