A-League: Sydney FC re-sign goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic

Sydney FC have secured in-form shot stopper Vedran Janjetovic after signing the 26-year-old for an additional two years.

After breaking into the first team midway through last season, Janjetovic has emerged as the Sky Blues' first-choice goalkeeper and has become the first player to receive a contract extension from the club this season.

Sydney coach Frank Farina said the goalkeeper received a new deal based on his form but believes the best is yet to come from Janjetovic.

“Vedran has been a real find for Sydney FC and has improved game after game,” Farina said. “He is still young in keeper terms and is learning a lot. I have no doubt the best is yet to come from him.”

Janjetovic joined Sydney FC in 2008 as their inaugural youth team keeper but parted ways after due to a nerve injury. He rejoined the club in 2012 after impressing in the NSW Premier League with Sydney United and earning a trial at the Sky Blues.

His new deal will keep him at the club until the end of 2015-16 season.

“I'm extremely happy to be staying at Sydney FC for another two years,” he said. “It's a great environment to learn in and I feel I have come a long way in my development already. The coaching staff and all of the guys in the dressing room have been fantastic since I joined the club and I'm delighted that I will get the chance to improve here.”
