AFTER years of only apartments, units and townhouses on the Queanbeyan real estate menu, local buyers are now spoilt for choice with houses and land available at both Googong and Tralee.

The first release of land at Tralee on Sunday saw 23 sales made at the burgeoning development, while the first Googong residents are now just days away from moving into their new houses.
Googong project director Mark Attiwill met with residents this week at the town's new $6 million club house, which boasts an indoor, heated swimming pool, gym and cafe/general store. With some 30 homes now all-but complete and 510 lots sold, Mr Attiwill said he was pleased with the way buyers had responded to the town.
"510 lots sold to date is an incredible achievement, bearing in mind that was at a time when people were listening to our vision, but it hadn't yet been realised," he said.
"And now that the vision has been realised and people can touch and feel what Googong is, we're quietly confident that the choice they'll make when they look at other developments across the region will lead them to consider Googong very favourably."
Although still largely a construction site, the completed roads, houses and landscaping is giving prospective buyers a better idea of how the town will look and feel. And Mr Attiwill said completing the major recreation facilities before residents moved in was also making an impression.
"At the end of the day, a township is for people, and our first residents are our founding residents. And to see them enjoying these facilities that are available so early in its lifecycle- it's not often the case that the first residents can enjoy this level of recreational facilities and amenity," he said.
Mr Attiwill has worked on Googong for six years, joining a team who've been developing the town for a decade
"There's a very big team that has been working on this for over 10 years, all of who are heavily invested in this with passion and commitment.
"All the building blocks for a new community and a new township are available at the beginning of the township, which is very rewarding and exciting for us," he said.
Googong will continue to develop over a 20-year period and will eventually house some 16,000 people in 5,550 houses.
