The Carnivale Multicultural Festival will return to Queanbeyan Park this Sunday, February 23.

"After being rained out last year we are really, really keeping our fingers crossed for good weather," organiser John Gunn said.

"We're hoping it's going to be a bit of a boost year after missing out. We've had a look at the forecast and it's looking terrific. It's looking like a very mild, sunny day."

Festival highlights include entertainment by performers from countries including Chile, Spain, the Cook Islands, Mexico, Hungary and Samoa.

New additions to the line-up include the Nepali, Pacific Island and African communities.

"The Nepali community is one of our newest groups to perform. They were originally meant to take the stage last year before the event was washed out," Mr Gunn said.

"They'll be doubly excited to perform this year."

An integral part of the Festival is taste testing delicious morsels from the various food stalls which include cuisines from Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the Pacific Islands and Burma.

There will also be family friendly activities including a pet paddock and jumping castle. The Fire Brigade and HMAS Harman will also be present.

Mr Gunn of the Queanbeyan Multicultural Centre (formerly the Queanbeyan Multilingual Centre) said the Carnivale was an opportunity to celebrate Queanbeyan's diverse community.

"Queanbeyan has a very vibrant, multicultural community ... it's a celebration of not only the different cultures but the high level of participation by these groups to make Queanbeyan what it is today," he said.

The Queanbeyan Carnivale Multicultural Festival will be held on Sunday, February 23 from 10am to 4pm.
