The milestone comes more than 15 years after the Village Building Company began plans to develop 4000 homes south of Canberra Airport at Tralee.
The move led to a long-running stoush between Canberra Airport and Village which was only resolved last year. As part of the agreement there will now be 3500 homes built in Tralee Village eventually and various measures have had to be taken to address issues that could arise from living in that area like aircraft noise pollution.
Construction is expected to begin later in the year and houses are expected to be priced between $389,900 and $512,000. The first 30 homes will be a mix of three and four bedroom dwellings.
The community will be home to around 10,000 residents and there are also plans for two schools, a childcare centre and a health centre.
Village Managing Director Bob Winnell said the public's response has been great.
"There is strong interest in Tralee Village and we now offer great value for money house and land packages, in an exceptionally well-located area of Southern Canberra/Queanbeyan," he said.
