It was the icing on the cake for Queanbeyan Basketball's first home double-header of the NSW Waratah State League season, with the women going down by just 60-63 against the Wagga Wagga Blaze.
The men were missing skipper James Lee to injury, while Jono Lazaro, Talor Goodall and and Rod Beer were unavailable to play as well.
Yowies player Adam Jackson said before the season started his side knew they would have the depth to cover player losses.
"We're very strong with players one to twelve and we knew we were going to be very deep," he said.
"The good thing about our team is that there's no individual that's going to be more than the next guy. We don't have a guy that's going to come out and score 30 points in a game, we're going to have 10 guys that can score 10 points in a game."
Jackson said it had been a couple of years since his men had toppled the Heat, who have been one of the strongest sides in recent seasons, and he said after winning two games from three starts, the men had the confidence in making the finals again this year.
"Wagga is always going to be tough and we hadn't beaten them in a while," said Jackson.
Both the men's and women's teams will have a three week break before returning home on May 3.
That day will be an afternoon double-header, with the women locking horns with Ryde at 1pm, while the men tackle Canberra at 3pm.
