The win came after two smashings against Sydney sides in the opening two rounds when their youth appeared to struggle. But the tide turned on Saturday with young guns Levi Power, Jarrod Atkinson and Toby Konroy excelling for the home side.

While numerous rookie errors from win-less Belconnen helped their cause, their vision, especially from the mid-field, worked a treat.

Co-coach Kade Klemke said his men needed to take advantage of the struggling Magpies to get their season back on track.

"We spoke about attack and taking the game on, and I thought we did that well."

Two goals a piece to Toby Richards, Brett Fruend and Matthew Bernasconi refelected the even spread of committment on the field, pleasing Klemke who saw a rise in his youngsters.

But while it was a vastly improved performance, Klemke said his side still had to fill some defensive holes in the midfield to beat the fast attack of Aspley at Dairy Farmers Oval.

"We still conceded too many goals, and if we give too much space like that to Aspley, we're going to get smashed. We just need to be more consistent through each quarter," he said.
