QUEANBEYAN District Cricket Club player Vinesh Bennett has his sights set on his first national call-up when he represents the ACT Rockets at the National Indoor Cricket Carnival in Victoria in July.

His goal is to represent his country at the World Indoor Cricket World Cup in Wellington, New Zealand in October, and has already started training hard for the Rockets who play over the winter months.
It comes after he was awarded the the Floros medal for the 2013 ACT Rockets player of the season at the Cricket ACT High Performance awards function last Saturday night.
Fellow Queanbeyan player and 2013/14 national Futures League player of the season Vele Dukoski also made the podium, taking out the Solway medal for the ACT Comets player of the season.
Both awards capped off what proved a brilliant 2013/14 season for the Queanbeyan club, and while the regular cricket season is now well and truly over, it will still have eyes on Bennett.
Bennett said despite his award and officially making himself available for national duties, there was no guarantee he would make the World Cup side.
"Throughout the week of the Nationals the selectors will watch and pick the 12 best players...I still have to play very well at the national carnival to get recognised and get picked," he said.
He did admit, however, that his brilliant form in the last indoor cricket season gave him the confidence he could push for an Australian spot, but said a new season brought new challenges and he could not afford to get too far ahead of himself.
"It's a new season again, and the nationals last season were in Brisbane and the humidity really suited the way I play," he said.
"This year they're in Melbourne, which will be a similar climate to New Zealand [for the World Cup], but this year we'll be looking at accuracy of the bowling and grinding out a total."
