A severe weather warning has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for damaging winds and blizzard conditions for people in the Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and ACT forecast districts
A vigorous frontal system will cross New South Wales during Monday. Northwesterly winds will strengthen during the day, with gales developing about the Alpine peaks from late morning, then higher parts of the Snowy Mountains, Southern Ranges and ACT during the afternoon.
Snow will also develop over the Alpine areas in the west of the Snowy Mountains district during Monday afternoon and evening, leading to blizzard conditions.
Damaging winds around 60 km/h with peak gusts of 100 km/h are forecast for parts of the Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts. Alpine Peaks may experience winds around 70 km/h with peak gusts around 120 km/h.
Blizzard conditions are forecast for the Snowy Mountains forecast district. The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep clear of fallen power lines.
