The rapper and producer, who grew up in the Northern Territory, will perform in Sydney's Hyde Park on Monday alongside Inner West duo Horrorshow and soul singer Georgia Humphreys.

The 29-year-old artist, a member of the Larrakia, Yanyuwa, Bardi and Wardaman nations, expected the community performance to be very different from his usual hip hop crowds.

"It's always such a good vibe during NAIDOC because there's a whole lot of family and young mob around and you get to connect with the community in a really positive way," he said.

"It's a really cool time for everyone, not just the black fellas, to bask in the beauty of this culture."

Nick Bryant-Smith, one half of Horrorshow who is better known by his stage name Solo, said the duo had worked on special lyrics and new verses "to riff on some of the stories about indigenous Australia".

"We're happy to play our small part in getting people along to the event to celebrate indigenous culture and people," he said. "It's obviously a really important time of the year."

The annual National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week celebrations recognise indigenous history, culture and achievements, with hundreds of events being held across the country. It aims to bring attention to the successes of indigenous artists, scholars, sportspeople, elders and community members.

The national theme this year is Serving Country: Centenary & Beyond.

National NAIDOC co-chairs Anne Martin and Ben Mitchell said the theme was selected out of respect for the indigenous men and women who have served in Australia's military conflicts and engagements.

The NAIDOC in the City event in Hyde Park on Monday, which starts at 11am, also features traditional dance and art workshops.
