The coach decided to come off after his brief stint and put Luke Jones back at halfback, as his men destroyed the Gungahlin Bulls 56-8 at Freebody Oval last Saturday to keep themselves a chance of winning the minor premiership.

They face the fourth-placed West Belconnen Warriors away in their final regular season match on Sunday, but have virtually secured a top two spot already with a superior points differential over them and the third-placed Goulburn Workers Bulldogs.

Gorrell said his men would look to keep putting sides to the sword as they aim for a fourth straight grand final.

"It's hard to stay focused for 80 minutes in a game like that [thrashing against the Bulls], we hadn't done that all year, and that's the first time in an ordinary game we've stuck at it for 80 minutes," said Gorrell.

The Queanbeyan Blues were also on fire last Saturday, virtually dropping a bomb on a lacklustre Belconnen United Scholars in their 60-8 win, which like the Kangaroos, was also their biggest win of the season.

They will also stand in the way of a Kangaroos minor premiership having played one less draw to be a single competition point clear on top, and in facing the Tuggeranong Bushrangers, should win to keep that record.

But after steam rolling Gungahlin, Gorrell was so confident in his squad he said he would not need to play anymore.

"I'll keep training and if we need someone I'll play, but at the moment we're travelling ok, so I'll stay away," he said.

The Kangaroos kick off at 3pm on Sunday, while the Blues play at the same time on Saturday at Greenway Oval.
