On Sunday, March 20, two assembled squads made up of youngsters from the South Coast Monaro region were pitted against a number of ACT-based union clubs as part of a Brumbies-powered pathway program.
Brumbies rugby development manager for South Coast Monaro Angus Balmaks said that the emphasis on grassroots football was of paramount importance to the organisation, and to the very future of Australian rugby union.
“It’s absolutely crucial and it gives these kids the opportunity to hear from some different coaches, and to compete against the best we have in the ACT,” he said.
“You will find, no matter which Brumbies player it is, that they all have a story from the clubs they started at in under 6s and that grassroots level is where all of our Wallabies and our Brumbies start from.”
The under 12 and under 14 South Coast Monaro development squads will again compete when they face up against the Wagga-based Southern Inland development squad on Sunday, April 3.
