Saturday August 20 saw 100 days since Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council was proclaimed. Council will be taking the opportunity to gather all staff on Thursday 25 August to provide a briefing on the merger process so far and looking forward. Achievement of a relatively seamless merger process to date is a credit to all staff across our council area. Council administration offices and depots in Queanbeyan, Bungendore and Braidwood will be closed from 11.30am-2.00pm to allow staff to attend this important session.

Pool consultation
Staff met with residents in both Braidwood and Captains Flat last week to discuss the recent report that went to Council. A further report will be developed to consider options for extending the season and opening hours of the three pools in Bungendore, Braidwood and Captains Flat.
Rates notices
The recent amalgamation of Queanbeyan and Palerang allows only for rates to increase by the NSW government rate peg which for this financial year is set at 1.8 per cent.
However, all properties in the local government area were revalued by the Valuer-General’s Office of Land and Property Information in 2015 which took effect July 1, 2016. It is this movement in values which has the potential to impact upon rates. With the proclamation of the new councils and the Stronger Communities Fund, the Government announced that rating structures of the former Queanbeyan and Palerang Councils are to be maintained in the new Council for a period of four years.
Barracks Flat Drive
The new traffic lights at Barracks Flat Drive, Cooma Street and Thornton Road should be completed within four weeks. The recent rain has had a significant impact on the program causing unscheduled delays.
Upcoming night roadworks
The CBD Improvements – Stage 2 project in Queen Elizabeth Park and Collett St remains on track for completion in late 2016.
The contractors will be undertaking night roadworks on Collett St from 7pm on Friday August 26 until 6am on Saturday August 27.
The roadworks will require the full closure of Collett St (between Queens Bridge and Collett/Morisset St intersection).
This will mean that access to and from the underground carpark at the Riverside Plaza on to Collett St will not be possible during this period.
