About 2800 people in Queanbeyan live with diabetes, which makes up about 4.4 per cent of the population.
Diabetes general manager ACT region Ian Peters said the national average is 6 per cent, and the actual numbers in Queanbeyan should reflect that.
Each month in the capital region, 170 people are diagnosed with diabetes.
He said there are a possible 1250 people living with undiagnosed diabetes and pre-diabetes in Queanbeyan.
To help inform people on best practice for diagnosis and treatment, Diabetes NSW ACT is hosting the Live Your Life expo on September 3 from 10am at the Canberra Convention Centre. Tickets $20. Phone 1300 136 588.
