Just last week, more than 17 cars were broken into and more were reported stolen.
At least four vehicles have been stolen and more than 24 cars have been broken into in the past two weeks.
Police said every police crew in Queanbeyan is working to stop the spread of thefts from vehicles and the theft of vehicles in a spate that is set to drastically increase crime numbers.
Detective Sergeant Michael Handley said the problems were ongoing.
He said police had seen a number of incidences where vehicles were left with broken windows and had been ransacked. He said there had been a number of thefts from vehicles and vehicles thefts.
“People need to be more aware, they need to be more security conscious,” Detective Sergeant Handley said.
“If you have to leave things in your car, put them under the seat or in the boot.
“Don’t leave $2 coins in the console. Be aware if you have a GPS on your windscreen, or a wallet, camera or laptop visible in the car.”
”Make sure it is locked, and that there is nothing visible. Park under street lights.”
“We go through these phases every now and again and unfortunately, it could be one or it could be a number of people.”
Detective Sergeant Handley said police can catch the culprits with information provided by the public.
