The funding was announced in the latest round of heritage grants by Planning Minister Mick Gentleman last Wednesday.
President of the Kingston and Barton Residents Group, Rebecca Scouller, said the grant will ensure the landmarks’ protection.
“We’re a relatively young city. These grants enable us to retain and preserve an important part of our history for present and future generations,” she said.
The signposts were built in 1928 in an attempt to make streets more pedestrian friendly. Construction was stopped due to the Depression, as well as drivers wanting more visible street signs.
Work will include protection from the elements as well as repainting street names.
