The Volunteers in Policing program has been operating across New South Wales since 1993.
The program gives members of the public the opportunity to become involved with their local police.
VIPs have a number of roles including supporting victims of crime, assist in local area community policing initiatives and providing police with a helping hand around the station.
Applicants for the Volunteer in Policing program must be Australian citizens or have permanent resident status, mature persons 18 years and over, possess good communication skills and have community credibility.
Prospective volunteers will be extensively screened and will undergo a police record and fingerprint check.
Successful applicants will undergo an interview. Those who are successful at the interview will be provided training for the VIP role by local police.
To be considered for the first round of volunteers, contact the Monaro Crime Prevention Officer, Senior Constable Nemec on 6298 0555 before 5pm on September 9.
