The students raised about $9000 for the community-based service which provides a loving home for 19 men and women enduring mental illness, who cannot live independently.
More than 70 guests attended the event. St Edmund’s College hospitality teacher Dean Parkes said the boys got alot out of the day.
“Not only are they obtaining the specific skills required to help them obtain their VET hospitality certificates, they are also experiencing a form of curriculum within the hospitality department that endeavours to provide students with a sense of giving back to the community,” Mr Parkes said.
For manager of HOME, Anne Pratt, she was thrilled to have the students continue their support of the facility.
“They’ve been a supporter of HOME since before it was built,” Ms Pratt said.
“They were the first group to raise a substantial amount of money and they continue to support us year after year.”
Ms Pratt said the residents of HOME had formed a special relationship with the students at the college.
“They just love that the students come and get involved and its just that getting to know more people, forming relationships with them, the school and the students.
“It’s just really lovely,” she said.
