The 17-year-old fled police during a random breath test on Monday, September 19. 

In the resulting police pursuit, the alleged offender reached speeds of up to 90km/h in residential streets.

About 2pm on Monday, the teen was driving in Rutledge Street when he was stopped for a random breath test.

Police allege the man stated a false name.

While the police officer was making inquiries into the status of the driver's licence, the teen “drove off rapidly” from the location.

The vehicle was pursued by police in the Queanbeyan area reaching speeds of up to 90km/h in a signposted 50km/h zone.

Police said the vehicle was abandoned in Hillbar Rise, Queanbeyan, near the Karabar High School.

The young person fled the vehicle but was apprehended a short distance away.

The vehicle was searched and a small quantity of cannabis was located. 

The 17-year-old has been charged with driving whilst suspended, stating a false name, driving dangerously in a police pursuit (Skye’s Law) and possession of a prohibited drug.

The teen has been bailed to appear before the Queanbeyan Children's Court later this month.
