Lauriene Atkinson passed away peacefully, aged 96, on September 14, 2016 at Jindalee Aged Care Residence in Narrabundah.

Lauriene was born in North Sydney on November 20, 1919, the first born child to Frank and Agusta Weitzel.
Lauriene was trained as a stenographer at the Williams Business College, North Sydney and spent her early working years with private firms in Sydney, finally joining the Commonwealth Public Service during WW2, where she met her future husband, Dave
She and Dave married in 1944 and daughters Gillian and Robyn were born whilst living in Sydney. Their third daughter. Melissa, was born after the family moved to Lockhart in 1953.
In 1961 the family relocated to Queanbeyan, where Lauriene spent the rest of her life, the last 25 years at Kawaree Retirement Village
Lauriene was a strong and energetic community member, involved with the West Queanbeyan Hospital Auxiliary, West Queanbeyan P&C Association and BPW.
In the years prior to her retirement, in 1979, she worked for Marland and Marland Chartered Accountants and during her retirement she was an active participant in the Kawaree Residents’ Group, Geranium and Fuchsia Society and the Senior Citizens Association of Queanbeyan.
She enjoyed a long life and was happiest with family and friends.
She is survived by three daughters, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
