Council has received more than 70 applicants for the Stronger Communities Fund. It is excellent to see the diversity of applications from sporting groups, children’s services and community associations all around the local government area. A panel made up of local government representatives will now assess the applications.

QPRC eastern pools
Council is extremely pleased with the high number of quality and qualified applications we have received for staffing the pools in Braidwood, Bungendore and Captains Flat over the summer. Council received more than 30 applications from across the region and will commence interviews in coming weeks. A community survey, coupled with community meetings, has given council excellent feedback on preferred opening hours for the pools and will help management determine appropriate open hours. The ongoing rain has seen delays to the maintenance works on the pools, but staff are optimistic works can be completed before the season is due to commence.
Wamboin Residents Association
I was pleased to attend the general meeting of the association last week to update the community on the implementation and transition plans for our new council. Discussion also centred on local matters including greenways, roads, the kangaroo issue, priority projects and the Stronger Communities Fund.
Garage Sale Trail 2016
Less than one month remains until the national Garage Sale Trail. Council is encouraging people to declutter their garages, storage units and sheds and help others find your unwanted treasures. There have been more than 70 sales registered in the Queanbeyan-Palerang region for the big day of garage sales on October 22.
Community meetings
Four community meetings will be held as follows: Wednesday October 19, Captains Flat community hall from 6pm; Wednesday October 26, Bungendore council chambers from 6.30pm; Wednesday November 9, Queanbeyan council chambers from 6.30pm; and Wednesday November 16, Braidwood council meeting room from 6pm. Council will be updating the community on major projects, providing information about upcoming events and the progress of the transition of the new organisation. Residents will have a chance to ask questions, raise concerns and put forward ideas.
