However, the self-nominating section for businesses didn’t quite garner the same amount of entries.
Committee chair Sue Whelan OAM said in 2016 the awards were broadened to include the former Palerang council area.
“The customer service award always proves very popular with the community and this year was no exception with some very pleasing entries,” Mrs Whelan said.
“We had a very good response to the industry awards last year, resulting in Dawson Heating and Cooling being named the Queanbeyan Business of the Year,” Mrs Whelan said.
“Unfortunately, that interest hasn’t continued in 2016.”
She said the committee had agreed to condense the presentation for 2016, and then look at only holding the awards every two years.
“The annual awards nomination schedule places a lot of pressure on the local businesses and the committee believes a bi-annual approach would deliver better results,” she said.
“The Committee will be reviewing all aspects of the awards, including the developing of a marketing strategy and we will be hoping to attract other industry members to contribute.”
The 2016 Community Awards Presentation will be held at the Queanbeyan Golf Club on Friday, October 21.
