The Volunteers in Policing program has been operating across NSW since 1993, however at present Queanbeyan has only one. The program gives the public the opportunity to become involved with the local police. VIPs have a number of roles including supporting victims of crime, assist in local area community policing initiatives and providing a helping hand around the station. Applicants must be Australian citizens or have permanent resident status, mature persons 18 years and over, possess good communication skills and have community credibility. Prospective volunteers will be extensively screened and will undergo a police record and fingerprint check. Contact 6298 0555.
