However, the second grade team is still in the running.
The past weekend saw the pre-season Twenty20 cup matches being played.
Due to the recent inclement weather, third and fourth grade matches were postponed indefinitely.
In first grade, the Bluebags took on Tuggeranong at Chisholm in the first match on Saturday.
Vele called correctly and opted to bat first. On a deck that was doing a bit, Queanbeyan compiled a competitive score of 7/124 from their 20 overs.
In reply, Tuggeranong, who were nine wickets down, scrapped home by hitting the winning runs off the last delivery.
In the second match, Queanbeyan took on Eastlake at Kingston on Saturday.
Winning the toss, Vele had no hesitation in deciding to bat first.
On a flat Kingston track with a lightning fast outfield, Queanbeyan’s openers (Dukoski and Higgs) took full toll, blasting 60 runs from the first five overs.
Two quick wickets saw the run rate drop a bit, but Heading kept the scoreboard ticking over.
Whilst there wasn’t any significant score from the other batsmen, at the end of the 20 overs Queanbeyan had put together a very good score of 7/174.
With the deck still playing well, Eastlake got off to a good start.
Bowling was tough and the Queanbeyan bowlers gave little away. A couple of wickets at crucial times slowed the scoring rate and with five overs to bowl, Eastlake needed 55 runs.
Queanbeyan bowlers, backed up by some excellent fielding maintained the pressure and were able to restrict Eastlake to 168 runs from their overs.
With one win and one loss, Queanbeyan needed to either defeat Weston Creek Molonglo in their last pool match on Sunday or have results go their way to secure a place in the semi finals.
Unfortunately, Weston Creek Molonglo won by nine wickets with 29 balls to spare in the game on Sunday at Freebody Oval.
The second grade team will play their semi finals match on Sunday.
