Round 1 of the Gallop Cup, Queanbeyan vs North Canberra Gungahlin at Harrison 2
Queanbeyan won toss and batted.
The innings got off to a good start with Dimarhos and Gane opening the innings. They took the score to 79 before Gane was out caught for 40. Dimarhos and D Solway then added 30 before Dimarhos (44) was out, caught trying to increase the run rate.
A bit of a middle order collapse followed, with Queanbeyan losing four wickets for 20 runs and suddenly we had slumped to 5/129. Shivakumar and Moore then took the score to 155 with Shivakumar being bowled trying to force the pace.
Moore and Macdonald added 30 before Moore (34) lost his off stump. Macdonald and Gillespie then belted 30 runs from the last four overs.
North’s innings got off to a disastrous start, losing three wicket for five runs in the first four overs with Ditton picking up two and Gillespie one.
Norths then dug in, aided by some loose bowling were able to recover and added 67 runs before Queanbeyan struck again picking up three for eight with Van Luin picking up two wicket and a smart run out.
Again Norths started to put a partnership together when Medved took a very tidy stumping off M Solway to have Norths 7/121 from 37 overs.
M Solway picked up his second wicket, with Shivakumar and then Dukoski taking one each and that wrapped up the innings with Queanbeyan winning by 82 runs.
Match details. Queanbeyan 7/214 (50 overs) defeated North Canberra Gungahlin 132. Bowling figures for Queanbeyan – G Gillespie 1/20, K Ditton 2/31, V Dukoski 1/19, T Van Luin 2/20, L Shivakumar 1/12, M Solway 2/23.

Round 1 – One day series. Queanbeyan vs North Canberra Gungahlin at Neil Bulger Oval
Queanbeyan won toss and batted.
Queanbeyan’s openers, Gregory and Cutler got the innings off to a good start with Gregory taking on an attacking role with Cutler being the anchor at the other end. The pair took the score to 61 from 8.2 overs before Cutler was dismissed. Bridgen was the next to be dismissed without troubling the scorers. Page then joined Gregory and the wicket and the pair plundered the North’s bowlers. They added 141 runs and took the score to 208 (31 overs) before Gregory was caught in the outfield for 104 (112 balls).
Falkenberg then joined Page and the rampage actually went up a notch or two, with both batsman keen to punish any loose delivery. They then scored 172 runs from only 15 overs and with only a few overs left, Page was clean bowled for 117 (93 balls).
Singh was next in and with only a couple of over left, was able to keep picking up singles and giving Falkenberg as much of the strike he could. After the 50 overs were up, Norths had used eight bowlers.
Falkenberg finished with 112 not out from 64 balls.
When it came Norths turn to bat, they lost an early wicket, but they consolidated trying to put together partnerships, but tight bowling from Queanbeyan kept the run rate well under the eight per over required.
All bowlers kept the pressure on and the required run rate just kept climbing. This translated into regular wickets. Norths were not going to roll over and they made Queanbeyan work hard, but in the end the result just seemed inevitable.
Match details. Queanbeyan 4/400 (B Falkenberg 112 no, A Page 117, J Gregory 104) def North Canberra Gungahlin 239 (N Singh 3/34, J Brown 2/22, D Southwell 2/30, A Page 1/30)
Notes on the match. Highest limited over match score in the club’s history. Highest ever club score in second grade, first time three batsmen have scored a century in the same innings in a second grade match. For each batsmen it was their maiden ton for the club.
