About 3.15am on Wednesday, October 19, Queanbeyan police were alerted to the incident by a member of the public who noticed smoke coming from the shop.

Police attended and evacuated two nearby residences as a precaution. 

NSW Fire and Rescue attended, and ascertained the electric stove had been left on, generating a large amount of smoke. 

No one was injured, and evacuated residents were able to return to their homes a short time later.

Over the past week, police also received reports of stolen goods from a home, and arrested two people on outstanding warrants.

GOODS STOLEN

A residential home in Lily Place was broken into between 9.20am and 3.30pm on Monday, October 17.

Computer equipment was stolen from the home, and police are appealing for any witness who may have seen a person or vehicle acting suspiciously in the area at the time to contact the Queanbeyan Station.

ARRESTS

A 36-year-old Googong female and and a 53-year-old man from Bungendore were arrested about 9am on Sunday, October 16, at a motel in Queanbeyan.

The pair were wanted on outstanding warrants.

The female was arrested in relation to a conviction warrant issued by the Queanbeyan Local Court for allegedly predatory driving, knowingly driving a vehicle in a menacing manner and other offences which occurred in Corowa in January last year. 

The man’s arrest related to a breach of bond warrant issued by the Campbelltown Local Court for property offences.

They were taken to Queanbeyan Police Station and appeared before the Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday, October 17.
