The council’s Special Heritage Fund has been expanded to include heritage items in the former Palerang council area. The fund was an initiative of the former Queanbeyan City Council, and has now been expanded to ensure the valuable heritage items in all of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council can be preserved, restored and reused. This fund is managed on a competitive basis and priority is given to public buildings, churches or buildings owned by community-based not-for-profit organisations. Those who fit these categories and have heritage items in need of restoration are encouraged to contact the council’s heritage advisor on 6285 6276 if the heritage item is within the former Queanbeyan area or 6238 8111 if the heritage item is within the former Palerang area.

Successful applicants
Funding for community groups from the Stronger Communities Fund is set to hit the ground across Queanbeyan-Palerang soon, with the council approving applicants at its October meeting. There was a great diversity of applications from all across the local government area and all of the successful applicants will bring excellent benefits to their communities.
Googong neighbourhood two
Development has been continuing in Googong as neighbourhood one heads towards the final stages. The development control plan for neighbourhood two has been produced and the plan will be on public exhibition for viewing and making submissions. As Googong has developed, the masterplan has continued to be refined and this will ensure positive outcomes for residents and the environment.
Transition plan
The council is on track to achieve the milestones set by the NSW government in regard to the transition process. The council has been focused on ensuring a seamless delivery of services and I hope this has been your experience. The Transition Plan 2016-2019 outlines how the council will transition and transform over the next three years. This plan is a live document that will continue to be refined as the projects progress and is premised on evolutionary change. The goals are to transform the organisation structurally, culturally and systemically.
