This is the first of its kind for a recreation facility in Australia. The highlights of the sustainability achievement include the use of river water for irrigation, the use of solar PV to generate onsite power for use in the barbecue, lights and fountain, improvements to the soil at the site using compost from the council’s green waste collection and the planting of mostly native and hardy species of plants.
Summer activation week at Q-One
The Q-One team will be hosting a series of community events in January.
An inflatable outdoor movie screen will display a children’s movie from 8pm at each of the four pools. The events start at 4.30pm with games and activities, followed by a free barbecue at 6.30pm. These will be held at the pools in Captains Flat on January 25, Bungendore on January 26, Braidwood on January 27 and Queanbeyan on January 28. On Sunday, January 29, the Q-One Indoor Sports Centre in Queanbeyan will host the Australian Open Men’s Tennis Final on the large inflatable screen.
Water main
Work to upgrade the water main in Uriarra Road, Crestwood begins on Tuesday December 13, weather permitting. This is a major project which will take approximately four months to complete. There will be some disruptions to traffic flow and traffic management measures will be in place. This is the first major infrastructure project where the skills and human resources of the two former councils are coming together to bring the project to fruition.
Queen Elizabeth II Park update
Following the excellent turnout at the park opening on Saturday December 3, the council has been listening to the feedback and has received a shade sail design from a consultant which is currently being reviewed.
We are hoping to have a shade sail installed over the playground area as soon as possible. The wet play area had some slippery sections which led to a few bumps and bruises. Our consultants are doing some upgrades to the area to make it safer for users and hope to have it reopened by Friday 16 December.
