Things have been proceeding well as we have transitioned into a new council.
I am looking forward to next year with much work to be done and council elections to be held in September.
I wish everyone in the community a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. I hope you all get a chance to have a break and enjoy a refreshing holiday period.
Canberra Symphony Orchestra
Save the date Saturday 4 March 2017 because the Canberra Symphony Orchestra will be treating us to a performance at the new riverfront stage at Queen Elizabeth II Park. This is exciting and it will be a wonderful family event where families will be able to enjoy a picnic on the amphitheatre seating or on the park oval.
Stay tuned for more event details in the New Year.
Water and road safety
Enjoy your family holiday, and stay safe, especially if spending time at the coast or around our rivers and lakes.
This time of year is a busy time on the road, and many of us drive long distances for a holiday break.
The Monaro Local Area Command have urged us to drive safely during this time. A reminder for the Christmas/ New Year season that double demerit points will be in place on all NSW roads from Friday 23 December 2016 to Monday 2 January 2017, inclusive.
Double demerit points apply to offences for speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, riding without a helmet and illegal use of mobile phones.
I also encourage you to be on the lookout for wild animals who may be mobile in search of water during the hot weather the region will experience.
Council shutdown
General Council services in Queanbeyan, Braidwood and Bungendore are closed from 12 noon Friday 23 December 2016 and reopen 8.30am Tuesday 3 January 2017.
Waste, recycling and greenwaste collection services will not change, due to Christmas and New Year’s Day both falling on a Sunday.
For specific closures for other Council services please refer to the Council websites.
