For the Rob Potter-trained One Son, the job was pretty straightforward.
One Son's father Best As Zariz jumped the fence of the neighbour's property to see a mare in the next paddock as a two-year-old.
Soon after Best As Zariz was gelded to avoid a repeat incident, meaning he would only ever have "One Son".
Richard Bensley rode One Son to it's second career win in the opener at Queanbeyan's annual Boxing Day races to give Potter the perfect late Christmas present.
"It was always good to win a race around Christmas time, especially Boxing Day at Queanbeyan," Potter said.
"It's a bit of tradition, been coming here for 30 years. I think it's probably my first runner on Boxing Day at Queanbeyan so to win the first race, it's great."
The win is One Son's second from 19 starts and Potter hopes the wheel is starting to turn for a "little horse" with "a ton of ability".
"You need a lot of luck in this game and I think whilst the horses are going very good, we just haven't had much luck," Potter said.
"This time of the year, it's always good to have them kick a goal... It was a good win today and a good confidence boosting win."
"We brought him back to a second tier meet just to give him confidence."
Potter says the win has established One Son as a genuine 1200m runner and they'll be on the lookout for that distance in the new year.
Potter is gearing up for a huge road trip that will take the Capricorn Park trainer to Warwick Farm, Canberra, Corowa, and Gilgandra in the space of six days.
