State Emergency Service volunteers from the Southern Highlands Region have taught nearly 3,000 kids about the dangers of floods and storms.
The program, created by public information officer Brent Hunter, came about when he addressed a class at St Gregory’s about his work as a volunteer.
Mr Hunter said the children responded well to the straight forward nature of the sessions.
“We do not sugar-coat anything, no matter how old the children are, we do talk about death, we do talk about being hurt,” he said.
“Our goal is to make sure the kids stay alive and prosper.”
The program is being extended in the new year with plans to extend the sessions to Bungendore, Captains Flat, and Braidwood.
