Council agreed to donate $10,000 to the QPRC Carwoola Bushfire Appeal, bringing donations and pledges to over $50,000 so far. Council will be assisting affected residents by meeting the costs of DA fees and certain other fees associated with the construction of a replacement dwelling. It has been brilliant to see the support from many different areas of the community including from Canberra, Cooma and east of the Divide. We are calling on businesses, community groups and residents to support the appeal by direct deposit BSB: 032-724, ACC: 362-257 or at Westpac branches.

Braidwood and Captains Flat pools: Council will be applying for funding under the federal government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) for two major projects. The first project is to significantly improve the infrastructure of the Braidwood and Captains Flat pools. Council has already earmarked $400,000 for infrastructure repairs at these pools under the Stronger Communities Fund, but will be applying for a further $400,000 under the BBRF in order to be able to fully address the issues at both pools. As the BBRF is a competitive fund, Council is seeking community support for the project and the Q-One Aquatics team has started an online petition which residents are encouraged to complete. The details can be found on the Q-One Aquatics Facebook page.
Braidwood Town Centre: The other project council is submitting under the BBRF is a project to improve the town centre. These works will be informed by the Braidwood Heritage Plan and be delivered in consultation with the Heritage Council of NSW. Works include restoring streetscape through cobblestone kerb and gutter, modernising the CBD drainage, providing off-street parking and resurfacing the main street. If either the pool and/or town centre projects are successful, there will be a further report to council seeking matching funding.
Sports Facilities Strategic Plan: Our region has a strong sporting history and an above average participation rate in organised sports. The Sports Facilities Strategic Plan (SFSP) contains broad strategies to guide the provision of sporting facilities for the next 20 years. Some of the strategies of the plan include strategically locating integrated sporting hubs throughout the LGA, providing an increased capacity for clubs in QPRC and eliminating the need for clubs to play home games in the ACT. The plan will soon be on public exhibition.
