- Those who planted a range of summer-autumn flowering bulbs should now be enjoying some of the floral delights such as amaryllis belladonna. Cultivation is easy, for the bulbs need little more than planting, with the neck of the bulb well exposed, into well-drained soil where they can be kept relatively dry during dormancy. Belladonna lilies flower best in undisturbed clumps.
- Thyme is a useful plant to have in the garden. Decorative in its own right along a border, as a spillover on walls. It can be kept neat with clipping (drying the sprigs for culinary use) and enjoying the numerous varieties and colour.
- Garlic cloves separated from a full firm head can now be planted into a reasonably rich fertile soil which has been given a top dressing of lime.
