Although Queanbeyan ran in eight tries against a physical and spirited Buffaloes outfit, Remi Wilton, who scored three tries for the Blues, believes that there is plenty of improvement left in her side.
"Next week we will be working on holding onto the ball more, slowing our play down and eventually trying to get that premiership," Wilton said.
Coming from a rugby union background, Wilton showed plenty of skill and pace in her try scoring exploits but her second try of the evening eventuated in bizarre circumstances as teammate Sammie Wood passed her the ball after already crossing the try line herself.
"She thought I was calling for the ball," Winton laughed. "I was telling her I was there if she needed backup but she gave it to me anyway, so good on Sammy. It's lucky that I caught it to be honest. I was a bit off guard."
Tuggeranong captain Karen Lyons was impressed with the effort of her teammates especially since many of them hadn't played rugby league before.
"I feel like we did really well," Lyons said. "It's a really good opportunity for girls to come and play rugby league in Canberra.
"Tonight's match was a bit of wake-up call. It was a physical first game so we will improve from here."
