While one of the major components of the Operational Plan is over $19m worth of works on our extensive road network, other major projects slated to begin in the 2017-18 financial year include $900,000 for the Bungendore landfill reinstatement, $700,000 for the Macs Reef landfill reinstatement, $2.75m for the Braidwood Waste Transfer Station construction and $6.5m towards the design and planning for the upgraded Queanbeyan Sewage Treatment Plant. Within the former Queanbeyan City Council area the CityCare program continues to operate and will deliver over $1.2m of improvement works. These include footpath replacements, pavement rehabilitation, bitumen resealing, upgrades to lighting at Riverside Oval, and improvement works at Hayley Park East, Ingleside Park and Jane Hodgsen Park. Community Meetings report: Thanks to all of those who came to the community meetings earlier this month. Staff presented information on the draft budget, fees and charges, the Stronger Communities Fund, an update on the transition progress and were able to provide information on a number of local items raised by the community. These community meetings are a good informal way for residents to ask questions of council and to receive information on projects in the local area. One of the items raised by the community at the Braidwood meeting was a petition from the Member for Monaro John Barilaro in regard to securing additional funding for Nerriga Road. The petition can be found in shops on the main streets in Braidwood and online via John Barilaro’s Facebook page.
Regional Art Awards: The Regional Art Awards are open to artists from Queanbeyan-Palerang, Cooma-Monaro or Yass Valley and will be held from 8 August – 2 September 2017. Council is inviting businesses to provide support for the awards via a cash or in-kind prize. Queanbeyan’s Form Studio and Gallery will support the Professional Practice Award and council continues to sponsor the main award of $2000 and the Highly Commended and People’s Choice Awards of $500 each. If you are interested in providing support, contact details for our Cultural Development team can be found on the council website or through contacting one of our customer service offices.
