Firefighters extinguished a 20 metre by 30 metre grass fire in Beard near the border with Queanbeyan on Wednesday.

Four ACT fire crews, including one from ACT Rural Fire Service, extinguished the fire between Railway Street and the Molonglo River about 1pm.

The fire damaged overhead powerlines with contractors undertaking repairs.

ActewAGL have confirmed there was a small fire at the base of a pole which was extinguished quickly.

Any disturbance was likely to have affected Fyshwick and Oaks Estate, but the fire did not cause any power outages and repair work was now underway, a spokeswoman said.
