- Continue to rake fallen leaves from lawns. Either add to the compost heap or use on garden beds, topping them with a helping of pulverized cow manure to help them break down and keep the worms happy.
- Check on indoor plants, making sure that they are not being over-watered, or remain sitting in saucers full of water. While winter flowering plants such as cyclamen, zygocactus and moth orchids require bright light, a window sill next to cold-overnight glass is not a good position. At the same time, keep well away from doorway draughts and heating vents.
- Don’t forget to make a regular inspection of any stored fruits (apples, lemons) vegetables (pumpkins) or wintering rhizomes such as dahlias, removing any with signs of shriveling or rotting, which may affect the rest.
- Take advantage of mild weather to transplant deciduous shrubs including roses, fruit trees, vines and ornamentals like hydrangeas. Time too, to plant asparagus, fruiting bushes, shallots, rhubarb and strawberries.
