Yes, this is my last fishing report for the Chronicle.
It’s something I’ve enjoyed doing immensely over the past decade or so, but it’s time to hand the rod over to someone else.
Thanks to all the readers for their support, especially those who’ve helped me out with feedback, photos and fishing reports.
I look forward to keeping in touch with many of you—after all, I’m planning to keep fishing as hard as ever!
Tight lines everyone!
On to the fishing, and it can be summed up in one word at the moment—tough!
Fishing in the coastal estuaries is grinding to a halt, thanks to cold, clear water.
One angler fished the Clyde River near Nelligen for a day-and-a-half and didn’t even get a bite.
His mate caught and released a nice estuary perch and landed a handful of decent chopper tailor.
The Moruya River is crystal clear and producing the occasional blackfish – but not much else.
Bluefin tuna fishing has improved slightly over the Shelf, with charter boats fishing out of Narooma landing several big barrels last week.
Lake Eucumbene is definitely worth a look, with a few lovely brown trout falling for lures fished close to shore.
These fish are feeding primarily on yabbies and can be caught on lures that imitate small crayfish.
