Electro Optics Systems confirmed on Wednesday it had executed a $170 million contract with US aerospace and defence technology company, Orbital ATK.
The contract related to their R400S-Mk2 weapons system, an automated weapons platform, and they expected to reap $500 million in orders for 2017.
EOS chief executive Dr Ben Greene said he expected 100 jobs to be created at EOS' weapons branch in Queanbeyan to meet order demand.
"Scaling up might mean some increased employment," Mr Greene said.
"There's nothing that's ever been sold in this market before. We only released it in December."
The system is used in infantry warfare and Mr Greene said it had half the weight and ten times the accuracy of the next closest product.
The system was entirely developed in Australia with some parts developed in EOS' US-based companies.
Orbital ATK produces weapons for the United States, NATO, the Commonwealth and other forces.
