Mountain lakes, in particular Eucumbene, are producing great trout. Bait fishing the banks with powerbait and worms is responsible for the majority of catches. Some big browns have been in the shallows early in the morning looking for food, which is ideal for fly and spinning anglers.

Heading to the salt, reef fishing remains consistent along the south coast with snapper and mowong in good numbers. Plastics, fresh bait and micro jigs are all great options to try. Drifting along the edges of the reef not only produces good reef fish, but flathead are quite hungry and will be attracted to these methods of fishing as well.
Bluefin fishing has been hard. A full moon and little current along the coast has seen only a few solid fish being caught. With the amount of boats on the water it's 'needle in the haystack' kind of fishing. Predictions from the pros – "there's plenty of bait being marked, so any day now for the bluefin".
Now that the colder weather has set in, fishing remains slow in the capital – but the fish are out there! Bait fishing with yabbies at dusk in both Ginninderra and Burley Griffin has been producing natives and the odd extra-large reddie. The Murrumbidgee has been quiet, and what I'm about to say will shock most anglers... Googong seems to be fishing the best. Anglers have been catching good numbers of reddies and the odd yellow in the timber on small plastics and cranks. Cod haven't been too bad either, with a few 70-80cm specimens and Adam Rolls bringing in a 109cm beast. To land a decent cod try getting out early morning and throwing swimbaits around.
