About 30 potential councillors met in the Queanbeyan council chambers to hear a presentation Local Government New South Wales.
While there were a few recognisable faces such as former Queanbeyan councillors Brian Brown and Trudy Taylor, and former Palerang councillor Peter Marshall, the event attracted a variety of people hoping to represent the residents of Queanbeyan-Palerang.
The session covered general information including the roles and responsibilities of a councillor and hoped to give potential councillors a definitive answer to whether they should run.
Another session is scheduled for Wednesday night at Bungendore council chambers.
Residents will vote for 11 councillors at the election on September 9.
Candidate nominations will officially open on July 31 and close on August 9.
