They teach Taoist Tai Chi™ arts for health, meditation and well-being.
“Over the past 25 years our volunteer instructors have taught this art of health to thousands of ACT residents,” says Ms Margaret Blessington, President of the ACT branch.
“In an age of growing health costs, tai chi can help all of us stay healthier, less stressed and more resilient,” Ms Blessington added.
Recent published research shows that the slow-motion moves of tai chi can help relieve back pain, boost immune function, help control the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, reduce the risk of falls, improve cardiovascular function, and even increase brain size.
The Society’s teachings are based in the ancient wisdom of Taoism. According to Taoist teachings body and mind cannot be separated.
Each step in the training is intended to help the mind return to stillness, clarity and wisdom, and the body to a balanced, relaxed and healthy state.
Also called a moving meditation, tai chi helps to focus the mind, reduce stress and improve your ability to concentrate.
The continuous flowing movements have a calming effect on the mind, and can improve mood and reduce the risk of depression.
