Year 10 students Caitlin Nilon and Jordan Hemphill will join Madelyn Campbell, year 11, at November’s performance in Sydney.
Caitlin will be part of a dance group performing jazz, contemporary and tap. Jordan was selected in the musical theatre category and Madelyn will be performing ballet.
“All three of us are super excited,” Caitlin said.
“We get to meet a lot of new people and work with amazing choreographers.
“It’s a lot of fun but it’s also a great opportunity.”
Many of Australia’s premier performers in dance and musical theatre started out with the Schools Spectacular, something the girls are acutely aware of.
“Dance is something we all want to do when we’re older,” Madelyn said.
“This is a stepping stone, it’s the start of a journey.
“A lot of people that have done Schools Spectacular are off doing amazing things and even coming back to choreograph for us.”
The process began months ago with a video audition, approximately 5000 public school students entered dance audition tapes.
The girls then travelled to Sydney for group auditions in front of a panel of judges.
The Schools Spectacular will feature more than 5700 performers this year. Last year’s show broke the Guinness World Record for the largest variety concert in the world.
Caitlin, Jordan and Madelyn will begin rehearsals in August and they will continue until November.
The performance will take place on November 24-25 at Qudos Bank Arena.
