In a statement, NSW police said the alleged incident occurred during the arrest of a man just after midnight on Sunday, March 5, while the officer was on duty.
"The male senior constable, attached to a local area command within the Southern Region, was issued a future court attendance notice for assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Monday, June 19," police said.
He was released on bail and is expected to appear in court next Monday.
A spokeswoman from NSW Police said the officer was stood down from active duty following the alleged incident and would remain so depending on the outcome of the court case.
