Cupcake Day has been around for years and is one of the most enjoyable (and yummiest) events on our social calendar. Cupcake Day for the RSPCA is all about baking, eating and, most importantly, fundraising for animals in need.
Last year, about 50,000 cupcakes were baked and eaten to support RSPCA ACT during Cupcake Day. That’s A LOT of gooey goodness! This year we hope to raise $110,000 for our local shelter. All donations make a significant and tangible difference. In fact, this money goes directly to our vet clinic going to help sick and injured animals, as well as to prepare animals for adoption with desexing, microchipping, vaccinations and toys for enrichment.
Who knew that a $2 cupcake could make such a huge impact in the lives of animals in our community? To put things in perspective, just 12 cupcakes can provide an orphaned kitten with a bed, litter tray, and toy and the proceeds from 25 cupcakes can cover one week of antibiotics for an animal recovering from surgery.
This year we have some exciting news in the form of Canberra's dessert queen Ali King. Ali became known audiences after competing in nationally televised cooking completion ‘Zumbo's Just Desserts’. Named after Adriano Zumbo, one of Australia’s most celebrated patissiers, the competition put people to the testing making elaborate and delicious desserts.
Proving she’s as sweet as her cooking, ACT fundraisers who raise over $400 will be in the running to win an exclusive Dessert Master class with Ali herself!

Cupcake Day is officially on Monday, August 21 but it doesn’t have to be on that specific day – you can choose any time during the month of August, and if you invite us out to your special event, we may even bring an animal with us!
When you put on your apron and whip out that mixing bowl, you are helping to ensure the future of animals across Australia is getting brighter. Who would’ve known the humble cupcake could do so much? And after all, who doesn’t love a little bit of sprinkles?
