At Wednesday’s council meeting it was announced that Swimplex Aquatics Pty Ltd had been awarded the tender and the project would be moving forward to construction.
It is hoped that the wet play area will provide greater access to aquatic enjoyment for people of all ages and abilities.
“This wet play area will be the only one of its kind in the region, and will provide a great incentive for patrons, both local and across the border, to visit our facility,” administrator Tim Overall said.
“These designs feature a considerable area at zero depth, which allows for people with a disability or mobility concerns to access and enjoy more of the space.
“We are striving to give people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to enjoy this wet play area.”
Residents will have the choice of two designs that will then be implemented with an expected completion in early 2018.
Option A – Zero Depth Wet Play Area
Option A will provide a completely zero depth play area with 24 water features. The cost of this option is $742,835.
Option B – Zero Depth with 30cm deep splash zone
Option B will provide a zero depth play area, a 30cm deep wading zone and 26 water features. The cost of this option is $782,413.50.
The wet play area will be constructed on aquatic centre land towards the back of the facility on the Campbell Street side.
The project will be funded through $450,000 from the Stronger Communities Grant with the rest coming from aquatic centre reserves and deferred capital expenditure projects funds.
If you would like to provide your input on the project you can do so by August 10 at yourvoice.qprc.nsw.gov.au
