Matthew is the principal solicitor and his wife Bernadette Fitzgerald, who has been at the firm for over 20 years herself, is the senior conveyancing clerk and office manager.
They also have another conveyancing clerk, Jordan Scarman.
“Jordan has very quickly proved herself as a competent and upcoming conveyancing clerk who is indeed an asset to the firm and a much valued member of the small team at Fitzgerald Naylor Lawyers” remarked Bernadette.
“Matthew took over the business, formerly known as Gordon Naylor & Associates, from Gordon Naylor when Gordon passed away” Bernadette shared.
For about fifteen years they kept the original name of Gordon Naylor and Associates before it was changed to Fitzgerald Naylor Lawyers as a respectful tribute to its earlier principal, Gordon.
“We are a small family operated firm providing a wide range of services to our clients including court work, family law, wills and probate, litigation and all ACT and NSW conveyancing” Bernadette declared.
“Matthew and I pride ourselves on providing personalised, friendly and professional services”
Their services also include criminal law, in which Matthew is very experienced, but “his favourite area is family law, where his aim is to reach agreement between the parties without the need for expensive court appearances wherever possible.”
That is obviously the least objectionable way of going about things when important parts of your life like custody of children and division of assets needs to be sorted out.
Prior to a career change that saw him begin practicing law in 1996, Matthew was a NSW school teacher from 1980 to 1995.
Meanwhile Bernadette has a long personal history in the region, having attended both the Catholic Girls High Griffith, ACT, and Daramalan College in the 1970s.
Fitzgerald Naylor Lawyers have also moved around Queanbeyan a couple of times, but they are now back in the office they used to occupy about 10 years ago.
