Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) refers to the work of a specially-trained human-animal team in which the human is a credentialed therapist and the animal has met certain specific criteria for participation.
AAT is a goal-directed intervention in which the animal is an integral part of the treatment process.
Capital Psychology Clinic uses AAT to address a wide range of child and family problems, including developmental, social, emotional and behavioural concerns.
Interventions with dogs have been used with a broad variety of child and family difficulties such as autism, ADHD, social skills and empathy training, selective mutism, assertiveness training, emotional regulation, depression and anxiety.
Meet their beautiful border collies, Toby and Lottie.
Bookings are now being taken for Molly’s Dog Assisted Psychology program, including Saturday appointments.
A Canberra success story, Capital Psychology Clinic is an all-female owned and run business opened just last year and has already outgrown its home in North Lyneham.
With 11 psychologists and an admin team of five, Eryn and Jenna are now creating a purpose-built clinic complete with clinical rooms, group therapy areas, access to open park areas and of course kennels for the psychological support dogs.
This newly-designed premises will be complete for opening in early 2018.
Capital Psychology Clinic would like to thank all of the support they have received from the families, schools and community businesses that has enabled them to expand and then give back to the community in such a short time.
The team at Capital Psychology Clinic were proud to support Beyond Blue this year at the annual ball and again model a healthy and supportive lifestyle by participation in the Canberra Times Fun Run.
There are many exciting plans for Capital Psychology Clinic and their new premises next year, and having such a supportive and healthy team ensures they can provide the best care for their families throughout the year.
In 2018, Capital Psychology Clinic will continue to provide the Secret Agent Society social skills program for children with high-functioning autism, as well as parenting support programs.
